Maya Textile has been producing goose feather pillows and quilts in its factory of 25 thousand sqm. in Akyazi, Adapazari, since 1993.
“We are the only representative of ETFA in Turkey,” says Serdar Torlak, export manager of the company who introduced their products and their objectives.
On Maya Textile
The company was established in 1993 by 100 percent national investors and has been serving by producing quilts and bed covers for the industry. We have four groups of buyers, namely, brands, private brands, hotels and furniture businesses. We have focused on goose feather pillows and quilts.
On brands of the company, and the Penelope
The Penelope brand, which targets to upper segment of the market, has the largest variety in its product portfolio. They are sold in shopping malls and luxury stores. We also supply our feathered products to hotels in Turkey and in Middle Eastern countries such as Dubai, Egypt and others.
This brand includes Thermocool line that was developed by using outlast fabrics, one side is for summer and the other side is for winter. So it can be used in four seasons and provide better comfort by balancing the climatic conditions.
Bamboo line has natural, anti-bacterial, anti-perspiring, non-odorous products. Having small cavities in it, these products are for summer nights.
Twin Platin products are made of 90 percent of Hungary goose jowl feather can either be used in single or double layer, and suits for four seasons. Piume Classic sleep pad softens the mattress and ventilates.
The line for hotels is more economic and has limited variety.
On goose feather and its supply
Goose feather is rather new in this country. It is a product of European culture used mostly in France, Germany and Russia. It is the most healthiest and natural material for sleep. Goose live with same feathers both in winter and in summer, so it regulates the body heat during sleep. We procure raw and semi-processed material from abroad.
Delicate washing and drying is important for goose feather. Utmost care should be paid to maintain its functions. We process the material ourselves. ETFA rules are applied in the process of the material.
On ETFA and its functions
We are the only members for this organization in Turkey. We are also board members. ETFA put the regulations and rules for processing goose feather, how it is washed, and how it is used.
On distribution of the products in domestic market
Otello is our brand to be sold in shops. We use a distributors network for Penelope, under Penelope Club concept that operates as shop-in-shop corners. We have about 400 corners especially in Anatolia and 150 Penelope Club shops.
On production facilities and R&D activities
We moved our factory from Istanbul to Akyazi, Adapazari last year, that employs 220 people on 25 thousand sqm. Annually we can produce about 500 thousands products, as quilts, pillows and pads. Besides, we produce about 280 thousand pieces of synthetic materials. Our product development team developed about 47 different pillows and 25 quilts.
On exports
60 percent of our exports are of goose feather. About 30 percent of our production is exported to 48 countries. Middle east, east European, the Balkans is our major markets for exports. We also sell to Kazakh, Russian, Azerbaijani markets and to France, Italy and Belgium
In general
We are successful in our exports in 2013, a 30 percent of growth. Number of Penelope club stores in abroad has risen to 30. Almost all capital cities in the export markets our products can be found. We think that currency rates may hinder our growth in domestic market in 2014. We have plans for the second quarter and hope for more sales in export market.
